Five MSU games that will decide the season

August 29, 2008

1. Sept. 20 vs. Notre Dame

The Spartans really need this one, against a Fighting Irish team that was awful last year. Notre Dame hasn't lost in East Lansing since 2000.

2. Sept. 27 at Indiana

The Big Ten opener is a precious opportunity to score a road victory. IU is solid, but MSU should be good enough to win in the Hoosiers' stadium.

3. Oct. 11 at Northwestern

See above. MSU would love revenge on the Wildcats for last season. And this is another rare, realistic shot at a Big Ten road win.

4. Oct. 25 at Michigan

MSU would be better off playing the Wolverines earlier, when the new offense is still finding itself. But this is still the Spartans' best hope for an Ann Arbor win in years.

5. Nov. 1 vs. Wisconsin

Can MSU bounce back from U-M, win or lose, as it did last year? If so, the Spartans are good enough to score a signature victory against the high-ranking Badgers.
