Lansing State Journal • December 7, 2008

EAST LANSING – The Michigan State football team will play the Georgia Bulldogs on Jan. 1 in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

It is the Spartans' first New Year's Day bowl game since 2000, when they defeated Florida, 37-34, in the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando. The game has since been renamed to the Capital One Bowl.

Sunday's announcement was made during a media timeout at Breslin Center during the second half of the MSU men's basketball game against Bradley.

Georgia, which was the preseason No. 1 team in the Associated Press poll, finished 9-3 in the Southeastern Conference.

"We're thrilled to be playing in the Capital One Bowl," MSU coach Mark Dantonio said . "This is another step in the progression of things. Our goal was to make a New Year's Day bowl game, and now that we've been able to do that we're very, very excited. I think our fan base will be very, very excited to travel to Orlando."

Running back Javon Ringer had a message for the Breslin crowd.

"We are going to Disney World!" he said.

MSU will receive an allotment of 12,000 tickets. Tickets are $80 each and can be purchased at msuspartans.com or by calling 1-800-GO-STATE.
